A first step beyond the original automotive market
Arbe developed radar chips and signal processing for vehicle assistance and autonomy. In July 2026 it announced selection by a major global defence integrator for situational awareness and protection, without naming the partner or financial scope. This confirms entry into a new sector but cannot yet quantify revenue.
Diversification may offset slow car programmes, although defence brings long support, supply-chain security and export controls. The same core now serves different rules and targets; series orders and repeat business must follow the initial selection.
What 4D radar means
Radar measures distance and relative speed, while advanced systems add precise horizontal and vertical angles. “4D” combines spatial coordinates and velocity. Arbe uses many virtual channels and its own processor for a dense point image that separates nearby objects.
Radar works well in fog, dust, rain and darkness but faces ground and metal reflections. Distinguishing a small drone from a bird or a slow person from vegetation requires the entire processing and classification chain, not only the chip.
Small, slow targets change the requirements
Vehicle radar mainly follows traffic in a predictable corridor. A protection system watches air and ground for objects with small radar signatures. Low-flying commercial drones can hover near buildings without flooding operators with false alarms.
Arbe's resolution may provide better input to cameras, acoustics, radio-frequency detection and other radar. The integrator controls this sensor fusion and what the operator ultimately sees.
A defence contract has a stricter invisible side
Public details are understandably limited, leaving unclear whether this is development, qualification or a planned series. Budgets, export permits and priorities can delay programmes, so later orders and Arbe's share of the final system will reveal the meaning.
Cyber security, component origin, long availability and resistance to jamming accompany temperature, enclosure, encryption and change-control requirements. A chip integrates easily into a partner's product, but the full-system integrator may retain most value and margin.
Dual use brings business and responsibility
High-resolution radar can protect airports, energy sites, ports and borders as well as assist cars. Moving between sectors requires export, end-user and reputational governance. As far as security allows, the public should understand the type of system receiving the technology.
Detection capability is separate from a decision to act. The radar supplies information; the complete-system operator owns rules and responsibility. Arbe's claims need operating tests and contract detail, so this is a selected component rather than a proven complete defence solution.
What the new direction may mean for Arbe
A successful programme could add revenue while automotive series mature and return technical lessons to civilian products. Orders, gross margin and scalable delivery will matter; programme selection is a milestone, not the outcome.
Czech radar, automotive and defence firms could support testing, mechanical integration, processing or service under export and security rules. Arbe illustrates Israeli sensor firms seeking several markets for costly platforms while customers, responsibilities and economics change.
