Context
The exhibition is installed in the auditorium of the museum’s Department for Education and Culture at Maiselova 15. The announced schedule offers weekday visits from noon until 4 p.m. through the end of the year. Czech and international academic and diplomatic institutions collaborated on the project.
What matters
Kriegel was a physician, politician and participant in defining events of the twentieth century. His amateur photographs can reveal everyday observation, travel and a private selection of subjects that a formal political biography does not usually preserve.
Practical view
Visitors should distinguish a photograph as historical evidence from a photograph as its maker’s personal view. Captions, dates and the provenance of negatives matter as much as the image. Only their connection with other records allows a more precise interpretation.
Takeaway
The exhibition extends the memory of Kriegel’s refusal through material that has not normally been accessible. It does not turn one photograph into a final explanation, but asks how a public decision was related to personal experience.
