Wiliot's physical AI tracks goods without batteries

Israeli-American Wiliot combines inexpensive battery-free sensors, a wireless network and analytics. Its Velociti partnership aims to accelerate deployment across large distribution and retail operations.

The partnership tackles the less visible part of the product

In April 2026 Wiliot announced a partnership with US deployment specialist Velociti. The goal is not a new sensor but installation, management and support across hundreds or thousands of locations. An IoT prototype on one shelf does not prove reliable operation through warehouses, shops, cold chains and transport.

Wiliot supplies IoT Pixels, wireless infrastructure and cloud analytics; Velociti brings field teams and repeatable deployment. Customers buy a durable data stream for ordering, logistics and staffing, so placement, coverage, enterprise integration and rapid fault handling are the product's “last metre”.

The label works without its own battery

An IoT Pixel combines a chip, sensor and antenna, harvesting energy from ambient radio signals such as Bluetooth infrastructure. It transmits identity and measurements such as temperature. Removing the battery reduces cost, thickness and maintenance enough for large numbers of crates, packages or products.

Available energy is limited and communication depends on infrastructure; it is not a precision instrument for every situation. Value comes from many readings that show a pallet entering a warm zone, a crate waiting in the wrong place or goods moving off schedule.

“Physical AI” needs continuous data

Wiliot applies the term not only to robots but to decisions about real goods. A model cannot optimise freshness or crate circulation from occasional scans. Barcodes and RFID record checkpoints, while ambient sensors aim to fill in the journey between them.

Companies can ask how long a shipment waited, at what temperature and whether movement was normal. Machine learning can flag deviations, but missing data may reflect shielding, bad installation or a network outage rather than lost goods.

The economics depend on scale and a specific problem

A cheap tag does not guarantee a cheap system: infrastructure, integration, cloud service, process change and support all cost money. Return should mean less spoilage, faster receiving, fewer lost crates or better inventory. Another dashboard without changed decisions is only an extra layer.

Velociti should standardise deployment and lower the cost of each site. Wiliot resembles a software platform but remains tied to physical logistics; actual customer volumes, lifetime, gateways, field work and data pricing will shape margins.

Goods data need rules

Detailed visibility can improve food safety and reduce waste while revealing inventory, sales speed, vehicle movements or site performance. Ownership, retention, links to staff or customers and cyber security must be defined.

Battery-free does not mean zero environmental impact. At billions of labels, materials, attachment, packaging recyclability and end-of-life matter. Benefits should be measured against waste and transport savings without creating a new stream of inseparable electronics.

For the Czech market, the integrator is decisive

Czech retail, food and logistics firms also manage reusable packaging, temperature, inventory and manual scans. A pilot needs sufficient volume, a process owner, a baseline and one or two measures such as crate cycle time or shipments outside a temperature limit.

A local partner must connect wireless infrastructure with ERP, warehouse systems and operating rules. The Velociti deal shows Wiliot moving from technology to repeatable implementation. Physical AI begins not with a glamorous robot but a trustworthy record of what really happens in the warehouse.
